Kyogle

Kyogle 15th – 30th December ( Merry Xmas) 2013

We were looking for a reasonably priced camp site for the Xmas period. Somewhere cool would be nice, however the weather of late has been extremely hot. Ideally a spot close to a beach would be great the temperatures by the sea are a lot cooler and more bearable than inland.
The problem is that all the campsites near the beach are either full (very cramped for space, and with no privacy) or too expensive, up to $80 per night. Talk about highway robbery! And you thought Dick Turpin was dead?
Having researched sites we plumbed for Kyogle showground, a little bit more inland than we would have liked but acceptable for our Xmas break.

There is some wonderful scenery out and about near Kyogle. I drove to the Gold coast early morning for a spot of fishing with Dave and captured this shot of a misty morning.

The sunsets were as equally stunning.
Not all of the weather was good and we had to bring in our awning before this storm broke. The lightning strikes were awesome;
I tried to capture them on numerous occasions. No luck this time due to slow reactions, both camera and mine!

Santa's been !!
25th December and I have decided to cook a Xmas dinner in the bus!

Andrea enjoying a glass of white with Casper looking on and wondering what all the fuss is about!

Entrée:
Mushroom pate with tarragon and Thyme, chunky style (due to no food processor)
Main:
Roast Chicken for the carnivore / Walnut, asparagus and herb loaf for the veggie
Yorkshire Puddings
Roast potatoes
Roast parsnips
Brussels sprouts
Butter and pepper mashed swede
Vegetarian gravy
Desert:
Xmas pudding with Brandy custard
Red and white wine and good company, not a bad effort even if I do say so myself, the oven worked well and with a bit of thought and good timing it was all cooked on time.

Steve the showground caretaker was growing Giant Pumpkins for an upcoming show. This monster had already reached 220kg and was gaining 12kilo’s a day. We all had our fingers crossed for him. The Pumpkin will reach its maximum weight then stop growing. Steve estimated that at the rate it was going it might attain 600kg.

The 2013 world record pumpkin weighed in at a staggering 2032 pounds
2032 lbs. = 921.7 kg or 145.143 stone, 1.016 short ton, 32512 ounce. A seed from the pumpkin can cost $60 or more with no guarantee of germination!

A lot of people have heard this bird, but few actually manage to see one. With its whoop whoop Whoooop call. This is the Pheasant Coucal (Centropus phasianinus) and is a species of cuckoo in the family Cuculidae.
