Yass 5th – 8th
January 2014
We had only just got settled in at the
showground when I noticed thick smoke billowing into the sky. This looked quite
serious as the wind was blowing a gale in our direction. We watched with
mounting fear, till we heard the sirens. It was all over in the space of 30
minutes but could have been a whole lot worse. This is the closest we have been
to a bush fire and hope not to be any closer.
We stopped at Yass showground’s for a
couple of days to enable us to visit our capital city Canberra. We have skirted
around Canberra now twice so thought it was time to call in for a look see.
Although we liked Canberra there was
something missing with it and it took us a while to realise what it was.
It was too quiet. People were milling
around but not talking it was a very strange place and a little eerie. It
lacked the hustle and bustle of other large cities we have visited; we really
did find it a strange place.
That said we did enjoy the visit to Parliament house and had a great picnic high up on its grassed hillside.
When Billy Connelly visited Parliament house he stated that, if any Politician was found to be telling lies he or she should be made to roly-poly down the hill. Billy I couldn’t agree more however a new grassed area for picnicking would have to be laid as there would be no room left on the hill
This is where all the lies are told!
and this is the hill that would be full of politicians ropy polying down it.
Bugger the politicians! What's for lunch mom!
The show ground is a bit rough to say the
least and although we were happy to stay a couple of days mainly due to its
location (close to Canberra). We would have stayed longer had the amenities
been cleaned more often. The council are going to miss out on a lot of revenue
if they don’t pick up their game
