Gundgai

Gundagai 8^th – 9^th January 2014

Gundagai was a great little spot right on the river. It looked delightful and as there was no time limit we were really looking forward to this spot. However the Australian weather would once again bagainst us. The mercury was rising and although we have solar power we can’t draw enough power from Mother Nature to run air conditioning!

It looks like we may have to leave sooner and head further South to hit some cooler weather.

It seems to me that this whole trip is about finding the ideal temperature in Australia. We have come to the conclusion that there is no such place! It is too hot or too cold; it is too humid, if its not too humid it is too dry or too wet. Can you tell we’re a bit over the weather?

A visit from a Christmas beetle a bit early for 2014 me thinks. Wow the coloration on these little creatures is amazing.

Now that’s what you call a swim Bro, couldn’t get it much closer if I tried.

The fish were not biting, so nowt changes there then. If they had any sense they were keeping hidden under some over-hanging trees trying to keep cool. However memories of Topcliffe came flooding back. Just needed a few hand fulls of hemp and some barbel to feast on the luncheon meat offerings.

I know what your thinking Mr. Berry and would strongly advise against it!

A pair of Cloncurry ( I think?) parrots came to say hello.

There is a quite famous monument to early pioneers and is sign posted ‘Dog on a tucker box’. It is located just before Gundagai if you are heading south.

Though the inscription was a bit too deep for my liking.

Yes we really liked Gundagai and will revisit another day when the weather has cooled and we are more prepared. Nice town and nice people.
