Airlie Beach

Sea breeze caravan park,  Airlie Beach June 25th - 28th

We really didn't know what to expect when we visited Airlie beach, maybe we thought that it would be golden sands for miles and miles. Unfortunately that is not the case and the reality is that Airlie beach, in my mind is more a place to await departure to the Whitsunday island of your choice. The main drag has plenty of travel agents trying to sell you the cheapest means possible, to get away from Airlie beach. We found that really strange.
That said Airlie beach is quite nice once you get past all the back-packers and touristy tourists. Hang on a minute aren't we tourists?
Sea breeze caravan park is a lovely spot and although the sites are small are well maintained, the grounds were having quite a bit of building work done (a new shower and toilet block, new concrete slabs and new drive ways are under construction at the moment. However it didn't spoil our stay and we were made to feel more than welcome. They hold a sausage sizzle and live music on a Friday night with all proceeds going to charity.

There is obviously lots of money about in Airlie beach as displayed by the Marina.

Obviously some people have too much money! This monster of a ship ran aground at each low tide and re floated at high tide. I can only imagine the damage each tide cost? What a waste!
It is also a shame that Airlie beach main street is in such disarray, there are road works everywhere. Hopefully the council has got it right and when finished Airlie beach's shopping precinct will flourish.
We can only hope.
